Luis Díaz is a sensation at Liverpool. His quick adaptation to the club has earned him much praise in England and in Europe. In the club itself they are surprised with his performance. Now, the official Liverpool media have published an interview with the Colombian player, in which he analyzes his arrival and his performance.
The footballer said that he himself is surprised by his quick adaptation to the club and the Premier League.
The interview with Diaz
Luis, nine games in his career at Liverpool and a trophy already. It’s going pretty well so far…
Absolutely! It’s going in the best possible way and it’s how we all wanted. Certainly from a personal point of view, it’s just how I wanted to try to start and what I’ve dreamed of and how I dreamed of starting. I knew that I would come to a very competitive club involved in everything. So, I’m very, very happy with how it started and that it will continue for a long time.
Has it surprised you how quickly you have been able to adapt to a new club and a new team?
It was a little surprise, yes. This is how she wanted everything to go well. I wanted to settle in as quickly as possible, as I was saying before, and get to know the style of play and feel comfortable. In training and on the pitch, I think I’ve managed to develop a good understanding with my teammates, and I think that’s because of both them and the coaching staff, who have helped me through this period of adaptation. They have been of great help to me. I’m here to try to help, I’m here to try to support the team and the guys. As I say, I want to continue giving my best.
To play a final so soon and see how much success means to the fans, how special and meaningful was that to you in your early days as a Liverpool player?
Absolutely, it was a great final. Obviously the players always give everything they can, and more to try to win this type of match, finals as important as those. So to see us win was fantastic. And the way it came about, after the penalties, you can see how much it meant to the fans. We know they always support us through thick and thin, so they certainly made themselves felt on the pitch throughout the game and on penalties. It was fantastic. For that to have happened in just a few days apparently since I joined the club, it was absolutely fantastic. But keep your feet on the ground, it’s about continuing to work hard, trying to grow as a player and as a human being, while trying to continue to contribute to the cause and to Liverpool FC.

Regarding penalties, Fabinho said that you and he practiced together. He had done the Panenka and you were a little worried that he would try it in the final. Was there a little bit of relief from his perspective when he scored it?
It’s true! In the days leading up to the final, we took penalties and for sure we trained together. He had been joking saying, ‘If it goes to penalties, I’ll do a Panenka’. And I said, ‘I can’t believe it. I laughed at him and said, ‘No, you can’t do that! If it goes wrong, the fans take it badly in a final.’ So when the time came and he’s stepping up, I thought, ‘Gee, is he going to do this?’ When he came out like he did, it just shows the class and quality of the player that did it. He was a bit shocked and surprised in a good way at how it happened.
You said you had seen Liverpool before you arrived, but when you train with the strikers every day, are they even better than you thought they would be?
I am very, very happy to share training camp and field with them. I had admired them from afar, but when you’re up close and training with them, you can tell a lot more than if you’re watching TV. It’s just not the same to see it on television or from the stands. You appreciate it (more) when you are with them. And it’s not just up front, but throughout the park there is that quality among all the players. They all have great skill, skill in terms of football and also tactically: they are very aware and have a great appreciation of the game also tactically.
Looking at the Premier League games, do you feel that with the quality of Manchester City, you know you have to try to win every game and there is very little room for error?
Absolutely. When you’re at a club like Liverpool, it’s almost obvious. We have to try our best to win, not just every game, but every trophies that we enter. That could mean we have to win every game to do that. But I would say that each trophy is different, each competition that we have left in presents its own challenges, it is different in every way. As long as we approach each of those challenges with positivity, a good mind and being well prepared, we will do well.
