TOLEDO.- The residents of the Toledo town of Lucillos have spoken at the polls and have said ‘no’ to the installation of a biomethane plant in its municipal area. A project on which the City Council decided that the people should decide, submitting the initiative to consultation after a series of informative talks both by the company interested in the construction of the plant and by environmental groups.
In this way, and with the option of knowing the different points of view, the neighbors have overwhelmingly rejected the project, in which of the total of 223 votes cast, 174 have been against and 45 in favoralong with two votes declared null and another two blank.
During the morning of this Saturday, the consultation was held, in which registered neighbors over 18 years of age were able to participate, presenting their ID.
The project had generated great uncertainty among neighborsTherefore, the Town Council chaired by Virginia Tragacete (PP) decided to make all the information available to the residents, organizing two informational meetings in which the residents of Lucillos would have the opportunity to express their doubts and concerns to qualified personnel.
Once this informative step was saved, this Saturday the survey was finally carried out, in which the people have expressed by majority their rejection of the project.
A decision that will be respected and communicated to the company promoting the project, Ence Biogás, whose proposal contemplated an investment of 20 million euros, for the construction of a biomethane plant on a 10-hectare plot of land, located 2 kilometers from the urban center. from Lucillos and 3 kilometers from an urbanization. In its surroundings, other towns such as Los Cerralbos and Illán de Vacas.
Likewise, the project contemplated a daily transit of 50 trucks and generated twenty jobs in the municipality.
