In the early hours of this Sunday (21), Brazilian Lucas Koo achieved an outstanding result in short track speed skating, at the Winter Youth Olympic Games, in Gangwon, South Korea. He finished the 1,000 meter race in ninth place .
Considering only the final position, this is the third best performance by a Brazilian athlete in an edition of the Youth Winter Games. Koo was only behind Zion Bethonico – owner of Brazil's first medal in history, won the day before – and Marley Linhares, who was eighth in the monobob at the 2016 Games in Lillehammer, Norway.
The Brazilian, who finished 21st in the 1,500 meter race on Saturday, could have gone even further. First, he was close to reaching the final when he was competing for second place in the semi, but he ended up falling and losing the chance. Later, in Final B, a competition that defines the positions a little lower than the podium, he won the heat, which would give him 6th place. However, he suffered a penalty in the fight for position in the decisive moments and fell to ninth place.
