The failed Fox project, affected after the purchase of Disney, caused all the emotion that the star had for the X-Men superhero to finally come to nothing, to the point of stopping watching Marvel tapes.
In an interview with Variety, Tatum opened up about one of the most frustrating episodes of his career: the cancellation of his entry into the world of superheroes as one of comics’ most beloved mutants.
“Once Gambit disappeared, I was so traumatized”, confessed the star. “I turned off my Marvel machine. I haven’t been able to watch any of the movies.”, he added.

Channing liked the project and the character so much that he even offered to co-direct her with his producing partner Reid Carolin, but Fox didn’t like the idea.
“The studio really didn’t want us to direct it,” Tatum revealed. “They wanted anyone but us, essentially, because we had never directed anything, “he explained.
Also, Carolin explained how they already had everything ready to start filming the movie and bring Gambit to the big screen.

“We had cast the film. We had opened a production office. We were on our way to film in New Orleans”, said the producer.
But what Tatum and Carolin were quite excited about ended up being completely cut short in 2019, when the mouse company made one of the largest and most important purchases in its history.
“Disney had just gotten the X-Men from Fox,” said Carolin. “I think they needed to redesign the X-Men from scratch.”

And as expected, the news devastated Tatum. “I loved that character. It was too sad. It was like losing a friend because I was so ready to play him,” said the actor.
When the project was created in 2016, Twentieth Century Fox announced that Channing Tatum would star in the film, but after a series of misfortunes and delays, the film never saw the light of day.
Despite this, Tatum is still open to being the mutant. “I would love to play Gambit.”, he pointed.
