Amazon responds to criticism from Lost Ark players.
Amazon Games responded to criticism of female representation in Lost Ark.
Since the MMORPG arrived in the West last month, some players have expressed displeasure with both gender-locked classes and the prevalence of skimpy women’s clothing.
In a statement to Eurogamer.net, Soomin Park Of Amazon Games he noted that changes are on the way on both fronts.
Your character’s class in the game is tied to their gender. For example, only men can be warriors and only women can be sorcerers. A blog post of the developer Smilegate last year she recognized this as a problem, but Park says the Berserker woman is the next class to arrive in the game in Korea.
“First let’s start with the classes with the locked gender“Park told Eurogamer.net.”This is something that will extend over time. Classes are tied quite tightly to their character models in terms of function and animation, so bringing characters of the opposite sex into a classroom requires more work than making a different gender model available“.
“However, Smilegate is actively working on this; the female Berserker is the next class coming to Korea“.
“In the future, Smilegate will create more counterparts for classes that are still gender-locked and we will bring them to Arkesia in time“.
Players have also been critical of women’s armor sets, many of which are openly skimpy.
“As for the armor sets, while we’re not altering any of the game’s original costumes, we’re making changes so that the more skimpy ones aren’t in the foreground.“.
“We are also including some new options for less “revealing” clothing, but this is an addition and not a replacement“.
Lost Ark has proved exceptionally popular since its release. The free-to-play action RPG has now surpassed 20 million global users and has seen the second-largest ever peak in number of concurrent players on Steam.
However, this too has brought problems. Players in Europe have had to contend with enormous wait times due to the game’s popularity and while the Europe Central server cannot be expanded, a new Europe West server has been implemented.
