The City Council has ruled out building a services building on the site occupied by the former National Police station, between Lope Gisbert Street and San Vicente Square. It was one of the PP's star projects in its electoral program and contemplated housing the headquarters of Aguas de Lorca, the Popular University and municipal offices. The project was approved by the Lorca Water Administration Council in 2019, the company was going to finance it, but the previous PSOE government team rejected it, the mayor, Fulgencio Gil, recalled yesterday. Now it costs twice as much and “it is not possible to resume it, we have to find a different project.”
Now the most likely option seems to be residential use and the project should include the expansion of the San Vicente parking lot and the remodeling of the plaza, Gil said.
