The president of the Community explains that this institution should be located in the port city for reasons of “proximity, sensitivity and many issues”
The president of the regional government, Fernando López Miras, assured this Friday that he considers it “appropriate” for the Mar Menor Office to be located in Cartagena and in the surroundings of the lagoon for reasons of “closeness, sensitivity and for many issues.” A position that collides with the will of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition to install this body in the city of Murcia.
However, Miras also recognized that it is a decision that depends on the Government of Spain, as he stated in a contact with the media when asked if this Office should be in the cities of Murcia or Cartagena. In this sense, López Miras stressed that “the important thing is that the Government of Spain acts, collaborates and helps to solve this problem”.
“We have been claiming for a couple of years an organizational chart or national institution that could coordinate all the administrations and all the work around the Mar Menor,” said the president of the Region.
In fact, he recalled that he proposed the creation of a high commissioner with the rank of Secretary of State appointed by the Government of Spain to coordinate all the work, but he regretted that “that request, like so many others, was ignored.”
Thus, he celebrated that they have decided to create an Office for the Mar Menor because he sees “positive” any type of action “aimed at protecting and coordinating the recovery work of the Mar Menor.”
“Unite and strengthen” the PP
Miras also expressed this Friday his “unequivocal will” to revalidate his position as autonomous leader of the Popular Party to “unite and strengthen it”, from the XVIII Extraordinary Regional Congress, which will be held on July 15 in the capital of the Community.
“I have strength, desire and enthusiasm, and I believe that the PP must continue to be the party that best represents the citizens of the Region of Murcia and the one that best defends their interests,” said López Miras, until now the only one who has expressed publicly his will to concur to the presidency of the regional PP. In line, he asserted that the last four years “have not been easy for anyone” and, in his opinion, they have managed to “overcome many challenges that an autonomous government has never faced before.”
More resources for regional justice
Finally, the leader of the regional Executive also joined the “demand” of the president of the Superior Court of Justice of the Region of Murcia (TSJMU), Miguel Pasqual del Riquelme, so that the Region is treated “the same as the rest of the communities » in judicial matters.
In this sense, Miras gave Del Riquelme “complete reason”, and recalled that the president of the TSJ of the Region said that in Spain there are “first and second litigation” and that the citizens of the Region of Murcia “are from second, once again, before the State Administration».
“Obviously, when there are fewer judges and less judicial infrastructure than in the rest of Spain, it is much more complicated to administer Justice in the times that are required, because they have fewer resources,” explained López Miras, who assured that he cannot be “more than agreement” with the president of the TSJ.
In this way, López Miras joined that “demand” so that the Region of Murcia, both in judicial matters “as in many other areas such as infrastructure or financing”, be treated “the same as the rest of Spaniards and communities” . «Neither better nor worse, the same; that is what we want”, concluded López Miras, who understood that Del Riquelme made this same request: “he has the support of the regional government”, he remarked.
