The head of the regional Executive bets on the president of the Xunta de Galicia as a consensus leader to rebuild the party
The president of the Xunta de Galicia, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, is “the solution” for the Popular Party. This was stated by the head of the regional Executive and leader of the Murcian PP, Fernando López Miras, before entering the meeting that Pablo Casado held with the regional barons at the headquarters on Génova Street.
Miras, who arrived late to the meeting because he had a control session in the Assembly in the afternoon, declared upon entering Genoa that the situation the party is going through “is not pleasant for anyone”, so it requires “a quick and consensual solution. “The solution is Feijóo”, reiterated the president of the Region of Murcia.
López Miras transmitted to the regional committee the position that he previously agreed with the local presidents of the Region, in the round of consultations that he held with them on Wednesday. They asked to hold the congress as soon as possible and the election of a leader by acclamation, so as not to widen the gap that already exists in the organization. He himself and all popular mayors and leaders in the municipalities agreed that the Galician president is the figure that can rebuild the PP after this turbulent week.
The Minister of the Presidency hopes that no one in the regional PP “is thinking of anything else” other than working together with Miras
Miras was one of the leaders who remained faithful to Casado until almost the end. On Tuesday morning, from Cieza (municipality of Teodoro García Egea), he distanced himself from the still leader and aligned himself with the rest of the barons to request the convening of an extraordinary congress.
Yesterday morning, in Murcia, he also referred to the former general secretary and great supporter in Genoa. “I have talked to him because I usually talk a lot with my friends,” he declared. Likewise, he had words of affection for Pablo Casado. “He found a formation in very low hours after the motion of censure against Mariano Rajoy, he managed to reactivate it and that the polls turned around in just three years,” he added.
Teodoro keeps the seat
On the other hand, Teodoro García Egea intends to continue as a deputy for Murcia in Congress, as he stated in the interview he gave to ‘La Sexta’ on Tuesday night, after his resignation as general secretary of the PP. Teodoro García Egea headed the popular list in the Murcia constituency in the last general elections, where the formation was surpassed by Vox. Together with him, Isabel Borrego and Juan Luis Pedreño obtained a seat. In the event that he finally resigned, he would have to replace Antonia López Moya, of the PP of Lorca. The next of the candidacy is the Minister of the Presidency, Tourism, Culture and Sports, Marcos Ortuño.
Ortuño’s warning
Precisely Marcos Ortuño made statements yesterday about the situation of the PP and its possible consequences in the Region of Murcia. According to the Minister of the Presidency, who yesterday acted as spokesman after the Governing Council due to the absence of Valle Miguélez, “there is clear leadership in the regional PP around the figure of Fernando López Miras.” At the same time, he said he hoped “that no one is thinking about anything other than working around the president in these difficult times.” This was interpreted as a message to the mayor of Archena, Patricia Fernández, whom the party’s critical current sees as a possible alternative to López Miras.
