“I like students who roar like the winds,” wrote Violeta Parra and performed by Mercedes Sosa; —youth are bearers of human love, kindness, solidarity, they are capable of feeling the pain of others as their own, as they are capable of establishing themselves as youth in a historical attitude. After a series of events and protests that culminated in a general strike, students were brutally attacked by police inside the facilities of the National School of Jurisprudence on May 23. For this reason, the students of this school demanded that that day be remembered as the Student Day, and this was decreed by President Emilio Portes Gil. Youth have been a fundamental part of the processes of change and transformation of our country. It was the young people who fought for university autonomy, for academic freedom, for their right to education; we owe them the commemoration of this date.
Later, the youth of ’68, in a historic attitude, challenged the regime, they fought to demand their rights, freedoms and democracy. Young people as a political and cultural product emanating from the 68 movement, in the 70s, undertook various student and popular movements of struggles and sacrifices, one of them for the defense of university autonomy in Sinaloa, participants of the student masses, María Isabel Landeros Avilés and Juan de Dios Quiñónez, UAS students, were murdered on April 7, 1972.
University autonomy is affirmed. The Autonomous University of Sinaloa is inexplicable without this and other stories. Students like the “Granito de Oro”, from the Colegio Civil Rosales, — now UAS, cultivated in poetry and literature, in pedagogical rupture stand in a historical attitude by joining the Mexican Revolution. All over the world, students are the voices that scream for justice, they are birds that are not afraid. May the students of the universities of USA and France who fight for peace, who demand an end to the bombings carried out by Israel, who demonstrate without fear, who raise their voices.

That he Student Day calls on all of us to recognize that young people have the right to freedom, to democracy, to live in better, more human, more fulfilling conditions; and they to assume themselves as a fundamental part of the transformation process that our state and country are undergoing.
Students have been precursors of social movements, bearers of rebellion, tenacity, convinced of solidarity humanism whose purpose is to achieve social justice. —History records it so. “… Let the students live / They are birds that are not afraid of animals or police / and they are not afraid of bullets or the barking of the pack…”
