In Austria, the three-week lockdown is having an effect. New infections and the incidence in the country are falling, while the number of corona patients in hospitals remains stable.
Vienna / Munich – Austria is recording a further decline in the number of new infections with the corona virus. Almost 1,800 new cases within 24 hours mean the lowest value on a Monday in two months. As the Ministry of Health and Interior also reported, the number of Covid patients in normal wards fell slightly, while it remained stable in intensive care units.
Corona in Austria: Vienna is restarting public life
The seven-day incidence fell to 215 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and was thus below the value in Germany. The development is the result of a three-week lockdown. As of Monday, the bars and hotels in Vienna have also been reopened as the last federal state. According to the city, around 200 people in the metropolis with its two million people are infected with the Omicron variant of the virus.
In order to prevent this variant from being dragged in, stricter entry regulations have been in effect since Monday. Without further ado, only those who have been vaccinated three times are allowed into the country. For people who have been vaccinated twice and for those who have recovered, there is an additional obligation to perform a PCR test. Anyone who does not have a negative test result when entering the country must register and quarantine immediately. The quarantine can be ended as soon as a negative PCR test is obtained.
Exempt from the regulations are pregnant women and people who cannot be vaccinated for health reasons. The reason for the exception must be proven by a certificate. There are also special rules for children and young people. The usual 3G rule remains for commuters. Transit traffic is not affected by the regulations.
