Citizens of Ukraine evacuated during the special operation of the Russian Federation to protect Donbass said that shelling continues from the city. They also noted that during the evacuation they were provided with everything they needed. This was told on March 7 by the correspondent of the Izvestia channel.
“The shelling was coming from Mariupol. Straight through towns. Houses were smashed, there were no victims, there were no wounded yet. The last shelling was the most terrible. On the same day we were taken out,” said a local resident.
The evacuation, as noted by the citizens, went smoothly. They were placed in warm rooms with communications, and were provided with food, bed linen and medicines.
“We were provided with a green corridor, buses, medical workers and accompanying people. We are very pleased,” added a local resident.
Many local residents are waiting for a calm situation to return to their homes.
Earlier in the day, refugees from Donbass, who have now arrived at the border with the Rostov region, said that neither the Ukrainian authorities nor the military informed them that they could leave the settlements along humanitarian corridors.
On March 7, from 10:00 Moscow time, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation announced a silence regime for the exit of residents from Kyiv, Mariupol, Kharkiv and Sumy through humanitarian corridors. The decision was made after a personal request from French President Emmanuel Macron to Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
Russia launched an operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass on February 24. As Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov clarified at the time, the special operation has two goals – the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine. According to him, both of these aspects pose a threat to the Russian state and people. The Russian side also emphasized that it does not hatch plans for the occupation of Ukraine, and strikes are carried out only on the military infrastructure of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
