Premier League
Zidane and Conte sound like possible substitutes for Solskjaer on the bench of Cristiano Ronaldo’s team, whom the VAR annulled a goal with the visiting ‘little hand’ on the scoreboard
With a triplet by Mohamed Salah, Liverpool beat Manchester United 0-5 this Sunday at Old Trafford, in the stellar match of the ninth day of the Premier League, a historical humiliation that leaves the future of the coach of the ‘Red Devils’, the Norwegian Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Salah got the last three goals for Liverpool (minutes 38, 45 + 5 and 50), to sign the ‘little hand’ at Old Trafford. The Egyptian player also gave the assist for Naby Keita’s first goal, in minute 5. Liverpool’s other goal was signed in the 18th by Portuguese Diogo Jota.
This victory allows Liverpool to once again be second in the standings, one point behind the leader Chelsea, while Manchester United is off the hook, seventh eight points behind the first and seven points behind their rival this Sunday.
Cristiano Ronaldo could not avoid the slap suffered by his team. The Portuguese star was annulled somewhat in 52, after the VAR review, although then the score was already 0-5 and the goal would have been anecdotal.
At game time, United were left with one man less due to the expulsion of Frenchman Paul Pogba, who entered the game at half-time. It was because of an action that injured Naby Keita.
Solskjaer appeared for much of the game sunk and dejected on his bench, while his team again showed problems in defense. He already showed lack of coordination in the rear this week in the Champions League, where Atalanta went ahead 0-2 at Old Trafford, although then the English team was able to come back and win 3-2, with a last-minute goal from Cristiano. This time the result at rest was already 0-4 for Liverpool and the ‘red devils’ were not at any time in a position to come back.
Liverpool once again showed its danger as a visitor. Away from home they have been eight games in a row, scoring at least three goals, while United have not maintained their unbeaten goal at home in the Premier since March.
The future of Solskjaer will surely focus the discussions, at a time when names such as Zinedine Zidane or Antonio Conte are sounding as possible substitutes for the Norwegian coach.
