Liverpool won the FA Cup by defeating Chelsea 6-5 on penalties in the final played at Wembley. But Mohamed Salah’s injury weighs on the title in view of the final on May 28 of the Champions League against Real Madrid. The Premier League top scorer left the pitch complaining of severe pain in his right groin.
As in the League Cup final at the end of February, Jürgen Klopp’s team beat the one coached by Thomas Tuchel from 11 meters at Wembley, in a hard-fought match but without many chances, albeit with three poles. The first half was marked by Salah’s injury. In the second half Chelsea increased the pressure and Marcos Alonso hit the crossbar with a free kick but in the end the reds led a real siege. At 0-0, Chelsea dared more in extra time but without breaking the deadlock. Mendy gave Chelsea hope back on penalties by stopping compatriot Mané’s shot after Azpilicueta’s missed penalty.
Immediately after, however, Alisson neutralized Mount’s shot and then Tsimikas transformed the penalty that gave Liverpool the eighth FA Cup, the first since 2006.
