In view of the escalating conflict between Israel and the pro-Iranian Hezbollah in Lebanon, Tehran says it does not want to send soldiers there or into the Gaza Strip. “There is no need to send additional or volunteer forces from the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Iranian Foreign Office spokesman Nasser Kanani said in Tehran on Monday. Lebanon and the fighters in the Palestinian territories have “the ability and strength to defend themselves against aggression.”
“We have not received any requests in this regard from any quarter,” Kanani said. “On the contrary: we have been informed and know that they do not need the help of our troops.”
At the same time, the Foreign Office spokesman announced retaliation for attacks by the Israeli army on Iranians. “The occupying Zionist regime will not go unapologetically and punished for the crimes it has committed against the Iranian people, resistance forces, Iranian citizens and military personnel,” Kanadi said.
