The Israeli ambassador in Germany, Ron Prosor, criticized, among other things, Germany’s recent abstention in the UN General Assembly. A resolution was passed calling for Israel’s withdrawal from the occupied Palestinian territories. “I expect clear language from Germany,” said Prosor. “Abstention is not a stance.” The ambassador reiterated Israel’s right to self-defense and announced to applause: “We will not let Iran’s attack go unanswered.”
Federal Justice Minister Marco Buschmann (FDP) reaffirmed the federal government’s solidarity with Israel. “When Iran fires hundreds of rockets at Israel to kill civilians, to destroy houses, to wipe out a state, then it is completely clear what is right and what is wrong,” said the minister. “Whoever wants to stand on the side of justice stands on the side of Israel.”
The German-Israeli Society (DIG) as one of the calling clubs demanded more decisive support for Israel from the federal government. “The Federal Security Council must now approve all arms export applications from Israel,” said the DIG. “Germany must now show alongside the Americans that Israel’s security as a German reason of state is more than nice words in Sunday speeches.”
