More than five and a half months after the outbreak of the conflict, the ongoing war in Gaza shows no signs of stopping: since October 7, at least 32,552 Palestinians have been killed and 74,980 have been injured during military operations conducted by Israel in the Strip. The siege of the al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City, the largest in the coastal territory, continues for the 12th day, where at least 200 people have died: all fighters according to Israel, all civilians for Hamas. But violence also continues in the West Bank where 3 Israeli citizens, including a 13-year-old boy, were injured when an armed man in camouflage opened fire on a bus in the occupied West Bank. The exchange of fire on the border between Israel and Lebanon does not stop, not even during the visit of our Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to the Italian contingents engaged in the Unifil peacekeeping mission. Meanwhile, Israel and the USA are resuming contacts: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed to send a delegation to Washington in the next few days to discuss the planned offensive on Rafah, in the south of the Gaza Strip where 1.5 million displaced Palestinians have taken refuge. The visit, scheduled for this week, was canceled following the American failure to veto the resolution with which the Security Council called for an “immediate, lasting and sustainable ceasefire” in the Palestinian coastal territory. However, there are no developments on the truce front, on the contrary. Hamas deputy political chief Khalil Al Yahya said he was pessimistic about the possibility of reaching an agreement in the near future. Something is starting to move in the PNA instead: President Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) has approved the list of ministers of the new government led by prime minister Mohammad Mustafa, who will be sworn in on Sunday 31 March.
