A man came to the hospital in Lithuania with terrible abdominal pain and with an X-ray the doctors discovered in his stomach more than a kilo of nails, screws and bolts that he had gotten into the habit of swallowing after he stopped drinking. The pieces of metal, many of them pointed and some up to 10 centimeters long, were surgically removed in the coastal town of Klaipeda.
“During the operation, which lasted three hours and with the control of X-rays, all foreign bodies, even the smallest, were removed from the patient’s stomach,” said surgeon Sarunas Dailidenas, quoted by the Guardian. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” commented a colleague of his who attended the intervention. The man, the doctors say, is now in stable condition.
