Author Sirpa Kähkönen has been elected President of the Finnish Writers’ Union for the new three-year term 2021–2023. The association elected Kähkönen as its chairman at its remote autumn meeting on Saturday.

“The existence of artists’ organizations is very important in these demanding times. The organizations know the needs and situations of the artists, ”Kähkönen says in a press release after his choice.
“It is important that Finland can continue to work as an artist in the field of liberal arts: that the value of art to society is recognized and the preconditions for artists’ work are safeguarded,” Kähkönen sums up.
