Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio revealed in a new interview that the name of Like a Dragon 8, or the sequel to Yakuza Like a Dragon, may not be the final one. The team did not choose the final title and indicated other possible ones.
The information was shared with Automaton Media during the Tokyo Game Show 2022. Masayoshi Yokoyama, head of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, said the game was unveiled under the name Like a Dragon 8, but the team isn’t sure yet.
According to what was revealed in the interview, RGG Studio could also opt for variantssuch as Yakuza Like a Dragon 2 or just Like a Dragon 2. Yokoyama revealed that Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio traditionally ends up observing users’ reactions to the names of its new games before deciding on them.
In fact, the developer has already thought of change the name of the series in the past. Yakuza: Like a Dragon adopted the Japanese series title as a subtitle in the West, and although Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio had already considered changing Yakuza’s name overseas after the series gained more popularity, it has decided to leave it unchanged until now.
Finally, remember that there are other upcoming games titled as “Like a Dragon”. Let’s talk about Like a Dragon Ishin – remake of the Japanese samurai-themed spin-off – and the more elaborate Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, which is positioned between Yakuza 6 and Yakuza Like a Dragon.
