Savona – Alessandra Mele from Savonaan Italian-Norwegian just under 20 years old, won the final of the Melodi Grand Prix on Saturday 4 February, Norway’s most important musical contest, and will represent the Scandinavian nation at the next Eurovision 2023 scheduled in Great Britain, in Liverpool.
That the young Alessandra was the most accredited finalist competitor to victory has been seen in recent weeks with his song Queen of Kings which in a few days has climbed the Norwegian Top Ten rankings, settling in fifth place, with over five and a half million views on the Spotify platform and the virtual conquest of the diamond disc.
“Queen of Kings it’s definitely a song from Eurovision but I didn’t expect to get this number of views in such a short time. It’s a song that transmits a lot of energy, for dancing or for example for training, which fully represents me. It would be wonderful to be able to sing my song on an important stage like Eurovision 2023 – declared Alessandra Mele before the final – I fought to get to this final and I will continue to fight to get the best possible result ».
No sooner said than done. With an exemplary and engaging performance, the young Italian-Norwegian, residing in Savona but currently in Norway to attend the Lillehammer university of musicwon the hearts of the public who, through televoting, gave their preference to the song Queen ok Kings and to the young singer-songwriter.
Alongside the singer, on live television from the Oslo studios, also her mother Marie Watle. «I watched the semifinal from home in Italy, from Cisano sul Neva, it was a joy but also a suffering – recalled Alessandra Mele’s mother in recent days, leaving for the Nordic state – The final? I have to be in the studios near my daughter. I couldn’t watch the final on streaming television.”
Alessandra Mele’s career was lightning fast. After revealing a talent for singing and writing from a young age, Alessandra lei moved to Norway last year to further her studies in music, singing and composition. She made herself known to the talent The Voice, Norwegian edition, in which the quality and determination of the young woman from Savona emerged. Alessandra was therefore selected to participate in the Melodi Grand Prix, the most important Norwegian singing event (the equivalent of our Sanremo Festival); after passing the first phase, Alessandra Mele reached the semifinals and last January 14th she conquered the pass for the final, which had just finished. In recent weeks, Alessandra Mele has alternated between the commitments related to participation in the Melodi Grand Prix and her teaching activities, at the music school she attends in Lillehammer.
«Frankly, I don’t know how I managed to participate and continue school activities. I threw myself into commitments, day by day. Then when I stop for a moment to think back on what I’ve done over the last few weeks and months, I’m satisfied – the singer underlined smiling before the final – Everything is going well anyway, also thanks to the teachers at the school I attend. The didactic direction is helping me a lot, see the commitment to the PGM as something important». The teachers had understood how much talent was hidden inside Alessandra Mele, fresh winner of the Melodi Grand Prix 2023 and next representative of Norway at Eurovision.
