Liguria, 8 km of queue for works. The truck drivers get off the trucks
Liguria is grappling with a new emergency, too many works on the highways, traffic blocked for hours under the scorching sun and endless protests, first of all truck drivers. Yesterday at five in the afternoon – we read in the Press – the traffic was totally interrupted, the decision was made by the truck drivers, tired of waiting in line for hours (it has reached 8 km). When the tension is high, a casus belli is enough to unleash anger. There is a discussion because the cars pass the long line of queued trucks and try to enter just before the detour. “Because if the cars overtake us and try to get in like this, we do a meter every two hours,” explains Ferretto. So it’s a moment: there are those who scream: “Now I’ll put the truck sideways and nobody goes by anymore.” There are those who suggest extreme protest: «Now let’s go and leave the vehicles here. We block everything ».
The protest eventually falls. Because – continues the Press – reasonableness prevails and there are those who try to restore peace among colleagues, suggesting not to exacerbate the situation, others fear complaints in case of protests that are too strong. Ferretto insists: «I left Bergamo in the morning, I encountered a hallucinatory situation. Impossible to work like this. There is also a need to fear for health and safety: on a motorway that does not even have rest areas to pull over in an emergency, anything can happen ”. For him, the situation that Liguria has been experiencing for months is a novelty: «I am 55 years old, in 1982 I was already with my father, in 1988 the family bought me my first truck and I started working alone. Never seen such a thing, not even at the time of the dockers’ protests ».
