“Lightyear”, the new Disney-Pixar movie starring Chris Evans, has been banned in the United Arab Emirates because it includes a lesbian scene where two female characters kiss. Just days after its theatrical release, the Media Regulatory Office of the country has confirmed that said launch will not take place.
Through its social networks, the agency made public the decision to completely veto the animated film in the country.

“The animated film ‘Lightyear’, whose premiere is scheduled for June 16, is not authorized to be screened in any cinema in the United Arab Emirates, due to non-compliance with the regulations related to media content in force in the country,” he wrote.
The publication was accompanied by an image of the film’s poster with the prohibited icon on it, which implies the seriousness of the matter.

As in other Middle Eastern countries, the United Arab Emirates is run by Muslim rulers, who strictly forbid homosexuality and emphasize the religious values of their culture.
Disney movies (Marvel and Pixar) have already had to face these prohibitions and requests to cut scenes where references to LGTBIQ+ culture were shown.

Recent and clear examples of this situation have been “Eternals” and “Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness”, which contained homosexual characters.
“Lightyear”, release date
“Lightyear” opens exclusively in theaters on June 17, 2022. Its first reviews from people in the press have been totally positive, so this is shaping up to be the animation success of the year.
