However, Cruz Azul had the option of moving the first leg final to the Monumental Azteca stadium, where the second leg will be played next Sunday, May 26.
Cruz Azul registered the venue that will be a three-time World Cup in 2026 as its stadium for this 2023-24 season before returning to the Azul stadium this semester.
The board analyzed that situation and made the decision to begin the search for the title in the Ciudad de los Deportes stadium regardless of the huge sum of money that would be involved.
According to Carlos Ponce de León, journalist for the newspaper Récord, the Televisa company would offer 70 million pesos to Cruz Azul to play the first leg final at the Azteca, an amount that would have been lost by refusing to play at the Coloso de Santa Úrsula today.
«Televisa told Cruz Azul_ “We are already in the Final, come to the Azteca stadium so you can be a local and have a great box office, I guarantee you 120 million pesos.” Cruz Azul let go of so much wool because he wants to be with his fans, he wants his community, to make the mosaic, to feel at home,” he explained in Los Informantes.
