Lifetime podcast|The Finnish car dealer has commuted his life sentence from the murder sentence to about 15 years, the Helsinki Court of Appeal decided.
It’s a year 2008. A group vacationing in Germany stops their motorhome and gets on the highway rest area to walk.
The Sterbecker Siepen rest area along the A45 highway is barely lit. It is difficult to see even from the adjacent road. The resting place is located between Hagen and Lyydenschaid in West Germany.
At the resting place, in the bush next to the road, something is chopping. When the travelers move the vegetation to the side, there is an arresting sight in front of them.
The body of a 20-year-old young woman is lying on the ground.
30 hours after the crime, the Lebanese woman’s mother informs the police that her daughter is missing.
The 20-year-old daughter belongs to a Lebanese Kurdish family whose family has also spread to the Syrian side. She is described as an ambitious young woman who wants to get an education and live on her own. The woman applies for an internship at a kindergarten right after graduating from high school, and plans to study education.
Those who know the woman’s family, on the other hand, describe her as conservative and religious. A young woman’s independence does not suit the family.
The harassment of the woman begins with insults and threats: first the brothers pressure her to change. When he refuses to conform to the family’s demands, the abuse begins.
Finally, the woman confides in her friends: she has started to fear for her life. The fear is so deep that she flees to a women’s shelter in the city of Iserlohn in the summer of 2008.
His life the woman spends the last evening with her family.
It is the 28th of August. The woman leaves the shelter to meet her mother. The reason for the meeting is not certain, but it is believed that the background is an attempt to once again repair the relationship with the family.
A woman arrives in the town of Schwerte. In the evening, her 16-year-old brother lures her into a car trip, heading south along the A45 motorway. A 20-year-old cousin and a 47-year-old uncle are also going along Hussain Kenjo.
Kenjo is a Finnish citizen. He lives in Finland and works as a car dealer.
Before the car trip, the family has made a joint decision: the woman lives an indecent life, dresses improperly and lives in cohabitation with a man. It has to come to an end.
When the car stops on the freeway to the north of the city of Lüdenscheid, the woman is thrown out of the car.
The 20-year-old cousin is holding the woman by holding her legs.
Kenjo takes the gun. He shoots the woman three times.
The last of the shots he aims directly at the face from a distance of only twenty centimeters.
The men carry the body to the side of the road, half covered by a bush.
Immediately after the act, Kenjo flees via Amsterdam to Syria. When the police start to get a picture of the course of events after the disappearance report, Kenjo is wanted.
Listen to the events of Kenjo’s escape, capture and legal tangle in the latest episode of the Elinkautinen podcast. The episode also discusses why Kenjo receives his sentence in Germany but serves it in a Finnish prison.
Kenjo is not the only one whose part in the events is being discussed in court. The mother of a 20-year-old woman receives a fine for lying in court. The woman’s brother, on the other hand, is sentenced to six and a half years in prison.
Kenjo, on the other hand, deserves a life sentence for his actions, it was stated in Germany in March 2013.
After the verdicts are read, a riot breaks out in the courtroom. The relatives of the accused throw chairs, and the guards have to calm the situation down.
The execution of the sentence will begin in Germany in April 2014. Kenjo will be extradited back to Finland to serve his sentence in 2015.
Kenjo has never admitted what he did. As of May 2024, he has been a free man.
