Abandonment, the loss of her puppies and health problems could end Yuri’s life. Thanks to Amanda instead …
The life of the dog Yuri it didn’t start well at all and it got even worse, if possible. However, thanks to the physical and above all emotional support of Amanda Kopec, the deputy director of the Cuyahoga Animal Shelter in Ohio, today has found her right and happy place in the world. Read his moving story below.
The story of this puppy began with that of many other dogs abandoned and ended up in shelters. The person who was supposed to look after her decided they didn’t want her anymore and said abandon it to a cold and suffering street life.
Volunteers from the County of Animal Shelter Cuyahoga in Valley View, Ohio, they took care of her as best they could and went out of their way to cure her of all the ailments she had. He had pneumonia, scars on his back and legs, he had heartworm and, on top of that, he was pregnant.
Little by little the dog started hers healing. She gave birth to her puppies, but sadly these infants did not thrive as the volunteers hoped.
Amanda, who had taken Yuri particularly to heart, decided to bring her and her puppies at his house, with the hope of helping them in a more private and safe environment. But unfortunately, day after day, all newborn puppies are dead because of canine herpes.
This upset not only the dog, but also the volunteer. In that difficult time. Yuri and Amanda are supported and helped each other, managing to move forward as they could.
Yuri’s new life
Now what worried Amanda most was the fate of Yuri. The little dog had shown signs of neurological problems and of deafness. A condition that would have compromised any idea of adoption.
With regular visits to the shelter, however, Amanda realized that the dog was able to stay serene only when he was in a group with the other dogs. And indeed, it helped them in their recovery path after abandonment.
Today Yuri is one fundamental resource for the refuge and has become a real star of the structure. Its history has gone around the world and has allowed the shelter to receive awards for its incredible results in terms of rescue.
