The lieutenant general of the Army in the reserve Francisco José Gan Pampols will assume the Vice Presidency of the Valencian Government for Economic and Social Recovery.
This vice presidency has recently been created to centralize all the actions of the Consell aimed at the recovery and economic and social normalization of Valencia and especially in the municipalities affected by the flood of October 29, which has left 218 dead in the province so far.
Gan Pampols, who analyzes world geostrategic news every week in this newspaper, will have among his duties the design of a recovery plan and the coordination of reconstruction efforts of the affected areas, so he will also be responsible for presiding over the Interdepartmental Commission in charge of organizing and coordinating all the departments of the Consell aimed at the reconstruction process of the affected regions.
Another of the functions that Francisco José Gan Pampols will assume will be the development of a protection plan for face possible natural disasters that pose risks to the population. To do this, the Generalitat will undertake a detailed analysis of the infrastructure related to prevention.
Francisco José Gan Pampols was born in Figueres in 1958 and entered the General Military Academy (Zaragoza) in 1975 and during his career he has risen through the ranks to lieutenant general in 2016. He is currently in retirement for having served the regulatory age.
His responsibilities in the military field include, among others, his appointment in 2009 as director of the General Military Academy, a position he held until March 2013. In March 2013 he was appointed advisor to the 2nd Chief of the Army General Staff, remaining in this position until May of that year. In May 2013 he was appointed director of the Intelligence Center of the Armed Forces and in December 2016 he was promoted to lieutenant general, remaining in the position until May 2017, when he was named chief general of the High Availability Land Headquarters.
Gan Pampols has numerous operations and peacekeeping missions in different countries. In fact, in 1995, he participated as head of operations of the AGT ‘Aragón’ in the United Nations Mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
In 1996 he was head of operations for SPABRI I as a NATO member in Bosnia-Herzegovina. In the years 2000-2001 he joined as chief of the Operational Staff of the Multinational Brigade West in Kosovo and in 2007 he was appointed head of the Provincial Reconstruction team in Quala e Naw (Afghanistan).
Lieutenant General Gan Pampols has a degree in Political Science and Sociology from UNED and an honorary doctorate from the Catholic University of Valencia; He is also a member of the Cívico de Opinión Circle.
