Let’s lead have a plan to deal with housing problem in Spain. This Thursday, the youth talent shuttle presented a battery of proposals for facilitate the emancipation of the youngestwhether in the form of purchasing or renting properties. This is the third major project of the entity he presides Tomas Guellwhich has previously addressed challenges such as mental health and the debureaucratization.
The document ‘More Housing’which includes 12 action levers, has been prepared in collaboration with the Cremades Calvo y Sotelo office and also has the support of the Spanish Confederation of Young Entrepreneurs (CEAJE) and the Spanish Confederation of Young Lawyers (CEAJ).
Among the main measures are the elimination of VAT and ITP for the first 250,000 euros in the purchase of the first habitual residence for those under 40 years of age; the construction of at least 250,000 new public rental homes for the next five years or the approval of tax incentives to encourage owners of empty apartments to rent them out.
Also proposed is the release of underused homes to the market, the redirection of housing demand towards emptied Spain, improving the mobility of these regions, and the streamlining and dynamization of bureaucratic procedures in the changes of use of non-residential properties (offices, commercial premises, etc.) to homes.
“We don’t want more speeches, we want keys. We are not the glass generation, we are the generation that will break the ceiling. We have proposals and constructive solutions,” declared Güell, president of Lideremos, who presented the plan together with Alberto Cabello (CEAJ) and Fermin Albaladejo (CEAJE). They were also accompanied by the vice president of Lideremos, Xavi García, and the representatives of the entity in Madrid, the Canary Islands and the Basque Country, Paloma Martín, Tania Tejeira and Apurva San Juan, respectively.
Petition to the Government
The proposal has already been transferred to Ministry of Housing. Although the autonomies have transferred housing powers, the youth platform asks the Government to approve a state level plan that contains the foundations of shared public policies.
“The ideal would be to focus housing policy around the rental segment, which would be of great help for the emancipation of young people and without causing a significant impact on public accounts. This approach seems to us to be more effective than multiplication of guarantees and subsidies for the purchase of housing”, explained Albert Lopezresponsible for housing for the group.
