Postponement or action?
Voices calling for postponement and others calling for the maturity date to be held on December 24, and between the two sides, the Libyans are waiting for the next step to determine the fate of the country.
On the internal pulse of the street towards the current situation, the Libyan activist Ahlam Al-Yaqoubi confirmed that all efforts internally are being made to postpone the elections, especially by the National Unity Government and the Brotherhood’s Organization Council.
Al-Yaqoubi made it clear, during her statements to “Sky News Arabia”, that the team calling for the postponement does not want the country to exit the tunnel of chaos, division and civil wars.
The Libyan activist said, “All international responses are calling for elections to be held on schedule, during conferences, meetings, and the media… But from under the table there are countries that do not want to hold elections because the continuation of the chaos in Libya serves the interests of those countries.”
In the context, the Libyan politician, Muhammad al-Douri, explained that the postponement of the elections will complicate the scene and the diplomatic path, unlike the loss of confidence in the international community, which demands and pushes towards the completion of the electoral process, and if it is postponed, it will be a major failure of the international powers towards the Libyan crisis.
What then?
Here, the Libyan politician says, in his statements to “Sky News Arabia” that events on the ground in recent weeks have prompted the Chairman of the Board of the High National Elections Commission, Imad al-Sayeh, to make new statements in which he expressed his concern about the possibility of delaying the scheduled date for the presidential and parliamentary elections, due to the atmosphere. current politics in the country.
Al-Sayeh called for “the necessity of consensus among politicians on the electoral process,” pointing out that “the commission has nothing to do with the Libyans running for the position of president of the country, but it is concerned with meeting the conditions for candidacy that are consistent with the election law.”
Al-Douri explained that all current indicators are heading towards a postponement, citing the delay of the High Elections Commission in announcing the final list of presidential candidates, giving the signal for the launch of propaganda campaigns, and announcing the political actors’ desire to postpone the electoral date to arrange the papers again.
Here, the Libyan activist Ahlam Al-Yaqoubi sheds light on features that began to appear inside Libya, such as the parliament meeting to discuss the possibility of securing elections and their failure to do so as a result of the weak presence of representatives; And then the decision of the House of Representatives to form a committee to follow up on the possibility of holding the elections on time and its preparations in this regard, provided that it submits its report within a week of its formation to the House of Representatives.
Fight again
“The Libyan situation will be very dangerous.” A prominent headline agreed upon by most Libyans in the event of the postponement of the presidential and parliamentary elections, as the Libyan politician, Muhammad al-Douri, stressed the need to seize the current opportunity and conduct the elections.
The Libyan politician called on the international community to assume its responsibilities towards Libya and what is happening in it, to toughen the discourse and implement deterrent sanctions against those obstructing the elections inside and outside Libya.
He pointed out that “the danger of renewed chaos and armed conflicts extends to the neighboring countries of Libya and its regional surroundings, and will not be confined to Libya only, and hence the danger of what is happening beyond the local scope.”
For her part, the Libyan activist, Ahlam Al-Yaqoubi, confirmed that what happened a few days ago, of storming the headquarters of the commission in Tripoli and then the sit-in outside it, aimed at delaying and obstructing the electoral process by the government in the west of the country, as well as threatening a new war.
In recent days, indications of the Brotherhood and its militias’ refusal to hold the elections have increased. It is noteworthy that in the event of a delay, 2.5 million Libyans who received their electoral cards and waited for the December 24th date to participate in the first elections in their country will be deprived.
