The Athletic Junior received the Freedom Club in the first leg match corresponding to the round of 32 of the South American Cup 2021. The Paraguayans managed to prevail 4-3 after a close encounter in which they had to overcome a minimal difference after losing at half-time.
One of the great figures of the match was Héctor Daniel Villalba, who scored two early goals for Libertad in the 12th and 14th minutes, giving his team the draw and then the partial victory. In the second half Julio César Enciso equalized the actions after another passing advantage of the Junior and finally Hugo Martínez was in charge of registering the defensive goal for the Paraguayans.
The defensive errors were the great factor in the defeat of the Barranquilla team, allowing them to turn the marking on two occasions courtesy of several errors, as was both the second goal of Libertad due to the error of left back Gabriel Fuentes and the third goal against the rival a rebound from goalkeeper Sebastián Viera.
“It’s a hard night, an inexplicable night, because scoring three goals as a local and being scored four is that there is a lot to review,” Amaranto Perea, the coach of the Colombian team, said at a press conference.
In Junior’s dressing room there is some concern after letting their home debut in the tournament escape, which will force them to seek a victory by two goals difference at the Defensores del Chaco Stadium in Asunción in the second leg to be played on next Wednesday, July 21.
