To journalists, the Minister of Justice, that the escape was a “very cheap” process and carried out with the tools found in the prison itself
The Minister of Justice and Public Security Ricardo Lewandowski said this Thursday afternoon (Feb 15, 2024) to rule out the possibility that the 2 inmates who escaped from the Mossoró Federal Penitentiary received outside help. The statement was given to journalists at the headquarters of the Ministry of Justice, in Brasília.
“We cannot imagine that it was something orchestrated from outside, with a lot of money and vehicle costs waiting for the fugitives […] It was an escape, I would say, that was very cheap and was carried out with what was found at the scene, unfortunately”said Lewandowski.
The minister stated that the 2 prisoners managed to escape using pliers left in the prison while renovations were carried out on the facilities.
According to him, the fugitives are not “hierarchs”but yes “soldiers of crime” who are not in “top” of organized crime.
