In an effort to promote peace and democracy in Mexico, citizens from across the country seek to unite in a peaceful protest under the motto “Let’s light up Mexico”on the eve of the electoral contest on June 2.
The call, disseminated through social networks, invites citizens to light a candle, a sparkler or simply the light of your cell phones on May 31 at 7:00 pmCentral time, as a message of hope and unity in the face of the electoral contest that we are about to live.
The objective of this initiative is to transmit a positive and constructive message, reaffirming the society’s desire for electionsconsidered the largest in the history of Mexico, free and peaceful.
Participants are invited to record themselves on video while carrying out this action, sharing it on social networks with the tags #UnaLuzXlaPaz and #DiálogoNacional, tagging National Dialogue for Peace.
In the Mexican capital, specific meeting points have been established, such as the Estela de Luz, Plaza Río de Janeiro, Parque del Museo de las Intervenciones, downtown Coyoacán, Monument to the Revolution and Central Plaza of Xochimilco. In addition, attendees have been suggested to wear white as a symbol of peace and neutrality.

It should be noted that an analysis by the Electoral Laboratory indicates that in the 2023-2024 electoral process, the number of murders of candidates during this campaign has increased by 50% compared to the 2018 electoral process, reaching the worrying figure of 36 cases.
