Injuries have been one of the serious problems for Millonarios throughout the semester. Physical mishaps are one of the reasons why the team is practically eliminated from the Copa Libertadores and has a very difficult time reaching the Copa Sudamericana.
Throughout the semester, according to journalist Juan Camilo Vargas, Millonarios has had 21 physical problems, three of them at the worst moment: Leonardo Castro, Stiven Vega and Sander Navarro were injured in the team’s 1-1 draw against Bolívar this Wednesday, which ended the Libertadores campaign.
Millonarios is playing, in addition to its continuity in the Conmebol tournaments, the passage to the final of the 2024-I League. The semi-final home runs did not start well for Alberto Gamero’s team: on Saturday they lost 2-1 against Junior in Barranquilla.
“About Castro, I understand that it is a sprain in the shoulder. They are going to make some evaluations and some images tomorrow (Thursday)”, explained coach Alberto Gamero at a press conference.
The forward is practically ruled out for the key match against Pereira on Saturday in El Campín. “I see Castro’s situation as difficult for Saturday, those shoulder injuries are serious,” added the coach.
Regarding the other two injured players, Gamero also gave an initial report: “(Stiven) Vega had an issue in his thigh and Sander (Navarro) had a cramp,” he declared.
Leonardo Castro was hired by Millonarios at the beginning of 2023, after winning the 2022-II League with Deportivo Pereira. He has played 73 games with the Bogotá club, including all official competitions. He has scored 36 goals and contributed seven assists.
The match between Millonarios and Deportivo Pereira will be played this Saturday at 7:30 pm, at the El Campín stadium. It will have Win Sports + broadcast. Pereira comes from beating Atlético Bucaramanga 1-0 on the first date of the home runs.
