“Lenovo will never give up its Chinese roots, but today it is a global company.” This is how the general director of Lenovo Iberia, Alberto Ruano, responded to a question about the possible imposition by the United States of new tariffs on products from China, one of the promises of the recently re-elected Donald Trump. Ruano recalled that the headquarters of two of its four divisions, Motorola and ISG (Infrastructure Solutions Group) are based in the country of the stars and stripes. “It is a totally diversified company with factories spread all over the world,” he insisted. To corroborate this statement, he mentioned the plant in Hungary that supplies – among other equipment, workstations – to all of Europe or the next factory that is going to be built in Saudi Arabia with an investment of 1,756 million euros to supply all of Europe. the EMEA region. Ruano made these statements during the ‘TechWorld’ event in Madrid, in which the company reviews the firm’s main milestones and launches some forecasts for the future.
When talking about technology, it is unavoidable to talk about Artificial Intelligence (AI). “So far, 1% of AI tools have been developed. For Lenovo, after the Internet, AI is going to be the next big revolution,” explained its general director for Iberia. “By 2027, AI will mean a turnover of 407 billion dollars for the technology sector, of which 225 will be in software, 84 in services and 56 in hardware, as the main expenses,” he predicted. Ruano has also explained that currently only 35% of companies are using AI compared to 42% that are exploring the possibility of using it. “In 2027, 80% of the market will apply AI tools,” he predicted.
Precisely the incorporation of systems such as Microsoft’s Copilot to the latest generation of Lenovo laptops has led the company to lead sales in this segment in this last quarter of the year. The company is especially satisfied with these latest results because they have grown in all their businesses while the PC also continued to gain market share and they were second in the tablet business, behind Samsung. Ruano recalled how a little over ten years ago it was thought that “the laptop was going to end the desktop computer, then the tablet was going to end the laptop, and then the mobile phone was going to end all the previous ones. And yet, Currently all these devices coexist and the cannibalization that many expected has not occurred.
In this event on technological trends, Alberto Ruano also recalled that the changes that are coming must be embraced and adapted to them, that it is not advisable to ignore them or try to avoid them, “because we can give several examples of large companies that were everything in their sector, like the old Kodak, which failed to understand the digital revolution and fell by the wayside.
To advance the growth that Lenovo has experienced in the last quarter of results, the company wants to continue with its Lenovo360 strategy. This translates into activating B2B (business to business) businesses in different segments and with cross-device sales and contracting of services. Thus, for example, it has recently developed a system for selling Motorola mobile phones with two specific models aimed at business audiences: ThinkPhone25 by Motorola and the Moto G75 5G Business edition. And, among all the markets in which the company is present in Spain, Ruano has referred to the educational sector: “If in Spain we have 47 million inhabitants, 14 million people belong to the educational community, including students, teachers… “We are going to continue taking care of this sector, because if you do not lead the educational market, it is impossible to lead the rest,” he concluded.
