The #35 will start on the third row
Thursday’s Qualifying at Le Mans saw BMW #15 (with the best time) and BMW #15 surprisingly enter the Hyperpole. Alpine #35. In the half hour that established the starting grid, the latter tried to mount the soft tires in the second run, finishing with a sixth fastest time which is worth the third row and the starting position in fifth position due to the five-place penalty that she will have to pay for the race. Cadillac #2 climbing from the first to the fourth row.
At Alpine, the surprise result achieved in Qualifying was obviously celebrated, but Paul-Luop Chatin’s exploit does not change the objectives of the French team in view of the debut of the two A424s in the Hypercar class: “The goal is to finish the race – declared the team principal Philippe Sinault as reported in today’s edition of the French sports newspaper The Team – ours is not pre-tactical, we are newbies and as much as we have worked to be ready for this appointment we still have a lot to discover about the cars and the operations in the race”.
Sinault did not hide the fact that in terms of speed at Le Mans the A424 has already expressed itself at excellent levels considering that it is only in the fourth race of its sporting life: “The car has a lot of potential and we are only starting to get comfortable with it“. The #35 will start in fifth position, the #36 (which also includes Mick Schumacher) in ninth and it will be interesting to see who wins the race. French derby between Alpine and Peugeot, with the latter having so far disappointed at Le Mans by not going higher than 15th and 20th fastest.
