When participating this Tuesday, 24th, in the panel “The Reconstruction of Rio Grande do Sul” at the Banco Safra conference, the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite (PSDB-RS), once again stated that Salgado Filho Airport, in Porto Alegre, will resume operations from October.
For the governor, the return of the airport’s operations will be a boost to the consolidated recovery of the Rio Grande do Sul economy, which has already been happening in a surprising way thanks to the union of the Rio Grande do Sul population and businesspeople from Rio Grande do Sul.
Emphasizing at all times that Rio Grande do Sul will emerge stronger from the tragedy that has befallen the state, Leite reinforced that he will implement a package of infrastructure projects aimed at rebuilding and restoring roads and bridges, building retaining walls in the areas that were damaged by the flood, and building dikes to contain water in the event of future river floods. He also spoke of the large number of privatization and concession projects that the government of Rio Grande do Sul will undertake in the coming years.
Another point that the governor of Rio Grande do Sul highlighted was the construction of a new airport in Serra Gaúcha, close to the city of Gramado, to reinforce the tourist vocation of the area.
“There are billions of reais for the reconstruction of RS coming from public and private resources. Rio Grande do Sul will invest heavily in the resilience of the state’s infrastructure,” said the governor.
Leite was unable to answer how much the State received in donations due to the floods in May, but he assured that he had already made this request to his teams and that he should soon have the numbers and that they would be made available for public knowledge.
