RB Leipzig will go to Belgium without head coach Jesse Marsch for the duel with Club Brugge in the Champions League. The American coach has tested positive for the corona virus, as has Hungarian goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi from Leipzig. Both have been quarantined at home.
Assistant coach Marco Kurth is not going to Bruges either. Kurth has been in close contact with someone who tested positive for the corona virus and is therefore also kept away from the team as a precaution. Achim Beierlorzer, also Marsch’s assistant, is in charge of the team for the time being.
Club Brugge is in third place in group A behind Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain with 4 points from four matches, Leipzig only has 1 point. For both teams, therefore, only the win counts on Wednesday evening in the Jan Breydel Stadium. The German club of former Ajax player Brian Brobbey can still continue in the Europa League with a victory after the winter break.
Recently, Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann also tested positive. As a result, the 34-year-old trainer was missing on the bench at the end of last month in the won away match against Benfica in the Champions League (0-4). Nagelsmann worked at Leipzig in recent years. He was succeeded in the summer by 48-year-old Marsch.
