After 38 years of activity, in which he composed the music for countless games including 21 chapters of Final Fantasy, the legendary composer Nobuo Uematsu retires from the gaming worldannouncing that Fantasian Neo Dimension is his latest video game.
Fantasian Neo Dimension is the new edition of Fantasian, the most recent role-playing game by Hironobu Sakaguchi, which also represents a sort of historical reunion, considering that the designer in question is linked by a very long collaboration with Uematsu, therefore the conclusion of the career on such a project has a symbolic tone.
In a public message sent to fans to promote the upcoming launch of Fantasian Neo Dimension, which arrives on December 5th on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series his desire to leave the world of video games after this latest job.
Possible returns to compose single tracks?
“This is my latest project as a video game music composer, I hope you pick it up and play it! Thanks for your support!” Uematsu said in a video message published on X in the past few hours.
The first works credited by Uematsu date back to 1986, especially regarding games published by Squaresoft such as King’s Knight and Rad Racer, but it is with Final Fantasystarting from 1987, that his name became known throughout the world, particularly linked to the series in question but also ranging in numerous other productions, becoming in all respects one of the most famous composers of video game soundtracks.
Recently, the same longtime colleague Sakaguchi had reported that Fantasian could be the last soundtrack composed entirely by Uematsu, but this would not exclude his possible commitments to single tracks from now on.
In fact, during a recent round table on Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Uematsu had reported that “it would be an honor” for him to be able to return to compose the main theme of the soundtrack of the third part of the remakeso we await any developments on the issue.
