The prosecutor is demanding several years’ imprisonment for, among other things, six aggravated and one basic form of human trafficking. In addition, charges include rape-like labor discrimination, rape, and less serious sexual offenses.

In addition to Baltzar, the charges are against two women. For them, the prosecutor demands conditional imprisonment for aiding and abetting human trafficking offenses.

The charges relate to a theater run led by the widely known and award-winning Baltzar, which has involved several young women over the years.

I’m talking to the prosecutor Mikko Sipilän it was an activity like a sect or a cult. According to Sipilä, the case is completely exceptional and cannot be compared to previous human trafficking cases.

Within the community led by Baltzar, the prosecutor has had his own finances and code of conduct.

Defense according to Baltzar denies all charges. Baltzar’s lawyer Jussi Sarvikivi there are differences of interpretation.

According to Sarvikivi, one of the main differences is related to the view of cult-like activities.

“There is disagreement with the prosecutor about the nature of this theatrical activity. We also disagree on what is the form of communal living related to gypsy culture. ”

The hearing in the district court began in camera in December 2020. It was scheduled to be heard in a few months, but the proceedings dragged on until Midsummer.

Helsinki In November 2019, Sanomat reported on Baltzar’s theater operations in an extensive newspaper article, “The Cult of Baltzar”. It was later awarded the Grand Journalist Award Gala as a matter of years.

Among other things, the story said that Baltzar has been attracting girls and young women to its theater community for years. Some of them also moved to live with Baltzar.
