The fifth pole position of the season, on the brand new Miami circuit, was conquered by Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque Ferrari was perfect in the last attempt, snatching the first position from Max Verstappen and above all defending himself from the equally splendid tour of Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard has finally stopped his black period and has conquered an excellent second position, locking up an all red front row. Mistake instead for the Dutch world champion in his last timed lap. The Hasselt native will start third, flanked by his boxing mate Sergio Perez. Interviewing the top three was Danica Partick.
Charles Leclerc (1st, Ferrari): “The fans here are crazy. Amazing to see how much the sport has grown in recent years. Seeing so many people in the stands certainly motivates us and many are Ferrari fans. The last weekend was not perfect for me, I made a mistake in the race. But today it went well. We start from pole and we have to complete the job tomorrow. Tomorrow? They are extremely fast in the straights, we are fast in the corners. It will be a tough challenge tomorrow, we hope to prevail tomorrow “.
Carlos Sainz (2nd Ferrari): “After yesterday’s accident, it was not easy to find confidence in a new track like this today. But I kept my cool until Q3 and then I got two good laps. Pole has not yet arrived, but considering where I came from yesterday, I’m happy. Win tomorrow? It will be an interesting day with everything that can happen. I haven’t done the race simulation yet, I’ve never had so much fuel. Tomorrow will be the first time he will have so much petrol on board. It will be challenging but I have faith in the car. It is very nice to drive here, we can do a good job ”.
Max Verstappen (3rd, Red Bull): “Overall I am satisfied. Yesterday I did 4-5 laps, today I used it all to learn the track and find good balance in the car. Being so competitive in qualifying was quite surprising. This is not an easy track to learn. Clearly you want to be on pole, but where we were starting the work was good. But we must try to make the weekends less difficult. So it gets complicated. But we have a good opportunity for tomorrow. We have good top speed and the car is drivable so I’m looking forward to tomorrow. Difficult to overcome? Yes, getting out of line is complicated, but many things can happen tomorrow. We will also see how the tires behave. ”.
