The Monegasque exorcises the ghosts
It’s been 45 years since the Ferrari it doesn’t turn a pole position in Monaco into a victory. It was 1979 and it was Jody Scheckter who succeeded. Michael Schumacher and Felipe Massa have not succeeded in the recent past just as, for now, home victory from pole position has always eluded Leclerc in 2021 (he was not even able to start due to the damage that emerged after the accident at the Piscine in the final of Q3) and in 2022 due to a strategic red pencil error by the Ferrari wall.
Charles Leclerc in view of today’s race he is not afraid of the two ‘fundamentals’ that separate him from his first home victory in Monaco, namely the start and the pit stop. “Lately I’ve started well and Ferrari has improved a lot on a strategic level, I’m sure we’ll do a good job”said Leclerc.
The Ferrari driver doesn’t want to think too much about it championshipwhich could be reopened today: “The championship is still long. I don’t think one race will change everything for us. We must remain calm. I think it’s too early to think about it. I think Red Bull still has the fastest car on the grid. It’s true that on such a particular track they didn’t have the best car and they struggled a lot more. But that doesn’t mean it will be like this until the end of the season.”
