Red sink
He dreamed of a comeback Charles Leclerc, as well as all Ferrari fans. Instead, after the joy of Monaco and the anger at yesterday’s terrible qualifying, today the moment has come resignation. Ferrari #16 has practically never been competitive, weakened by constant engine problems which forced Leclerc to constantly talk with his track engineer Bryan Bozzi and to continually make adjustments to the steering wheel in a desperate attempt to remedy the lack of power caused by a power unit that was undoubtedly damaged.
Made inevitable
In the end the Ferrari pit wall opted for the white flag, picking up the car of the Monegasque. A bitter pill to digest, with Leclerc however not avoiding the ritual of the post-race chat to the microphones of Sky Sports F1: “The fact that engines are changed is often not a very good sign – explained the Monegasque driver – we have to analyze today’s problem, but I don’t know what it was honestly. I was going a second and a half or 1.2 slower, it was really a difficult race to manage because in addition to what I lost on the straight I had a thousand things to do on the steering“.
Engine knocked out
Initially, thanks to the wet track, Leclerc managed with his talent to ‘mask’ the problemsbut then the situation simply became unmanageable: “In the first part of the race, in difficult conditions, we had the same pace as the nearby riders and that gives you a bit of confidence, but once the track was dry you can take fewer risks than with the wet track and I lost 1.5 seconds. I let everyone pass a bit and I knew the race was over there. Today the problem was only the engineyesterday there was another problem that we need to analyze. We lost the match yesterday with what happened”#16 commented bitterly.
