Productive day in Tuscany
The second day of testing at Mugello organized by Pirelli was able to take place regularly yesterday without the rain affecting the work programme. Below is the official note released by the sole supplier of tires in F1.
“Finally the rain gave Mugello some respite and the second day of testing scheduled for today was able to take place regularly. There were four drivers who took to the track on the Tuscan track: like yesterday, Oracle Red Bull Racing fielded its reserve driver Liam Lawson while the McLaren F1 Team used one of the two starters, namely Lando Norris ; Scuderia Ferrari HP, whose commitment was scheduled only for today, alternated Carlos Sainz at the wheel of the SF-24 in the morning and Charles Leclerc in the afternoon. Even today the team of Pirelli technicians worked on two parallel programs: Red Bull and Ferrari were busy developing the compounds for 2025, in particular the harder ones in the range planned for next season, while McLaren, which brought a mule car at Mugello, focused on the first tests of the 2026 tire prototypes.
“The first hour of activity this morning took place on a track that was still damp, so much so that all three cars were fitted with intermediate tyres, whilst still gathering useful information, especially on a challenging track like the Tuscan one. From eleven o’clock onwards it was possible to switch to slick tires to try to complete the entire planned programme. At the end of the day, 390 laps had been completed. The most active on the track was Lando Norris (118 laps, best time 1’21”302) followed by Liam Lawson (116 laps, 1’23”219), Charles Leclerc (79 laps, 1’21”053) and Carlos Sainz (77 laps, 1’21”890). The next stages of the two development programs are scheduled for the second free practice session of the Mexico City Grand Prix as regards the compounds for next year (a so-called “in-competition test” will take place, dedicated in particular to the softest compounds in the range) while for the 2026 prototypes the appointment is for 13 and 14 November next to Magny -Cours (France), where the mule car prepared by Alpine will run”.
