Wind protagonist in the finale
Qualifying for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix began 15 minutes late but ended a few minutes early, defining the starting grid for Sunday’s race. In fact, at the end of Q3 the protagonists were the wind and the rain, which forced Race Direction to wave the red flag with 4 minutes left on the clock. All protagonists of the final hunt for pole therefore had only one lap available to set the time on the soft tyres.
Once again it was Max Verstappen who stood out, intelligently taking to the track before the track – and especially the last sector – were swept away by the first drops of rain and above all by a very strong wind. Behind the Dutchman, however, she shone once again star of Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque confirms himself as a specialist in the flying lap and also in the Sprint weekends and has signed his own third consecutive start at the post after the poles in Austin and Mexico.
Second place which bodes well
“Honestly I’m happy, because I have never experienced conditions like this in my entire career – commented Leclerc to the microphones of Sky Sports F1 just finished Q3 – I don’t even know how to explain them. Once the storm arrived there was no grip left and in my opinion the wind was going in all directions. It wasn’t clear where the grip was and we lost a lot, but I still managed to put the lap together. Having come second is a nice surprise and I will do everything I can to make the best of it. Let’s see how it goes on Sunday“.
Leclerc also explained that the track was not yet wetif not for a few droplets, but that “it seemed as if it were” due to the little grip there was on the track. The one centered today was the 30th front row collection in his career from the Monegasque Cavallino, who is now -1 behind Niki Lauda in this particular ranking.
