Beirut, Lebanon.- The Lebanese Army announced on Thursday that it had responded to Israeli gunfire for the first time in a year, after losing another soldier in the south of the country.
“A soldier was killed after the Israeli enemy attacked a military post in the Bint Jbeil area in the south, and military personnel returned fire,” the Lebanese army said in a statement.
Shortly before, the Lebanese Armed Forces indicated that one of their soldiers was killed and another was wounded while carrying out a “rescue mission in the town of Taybé” together with the Lebanese Red Cross. Another soldier died on Monday in an attack carried out by an Israeli drone, according to the Army. So there are now three Lebanese soldiers who have fallen since on September 23, Israel intensified its campaign in the neighboring country, focused on the pro-Iran Hezbollah movement.
The Lebanese Health Ministry said at least 40 rescuers and firefighters have been killed in Israeli bombings in Lebanon in the past three days.
In total, 97 rescuers and firefighters have been killed and 188 injured since the start of fighting between Israel and the Lebanese Islamist movement Hezbollah in October last year, said Lebanese Health Minister Firas Abiad. This balance includes agents of organizations linked to Hezbollah or other groups. Since the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah began, 1,974 people have been killed, including 127 children, and more than 9,350 have been injured, the Minister added. After almost a year of cross-border shooting, beginning at the beginning of the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, Israel has shifted the focus of its operations to Lebanon, where intense bombing has forced hundreds of thousands of people to flee. Israel announced this week that its troops began ground attacks in parts of southern Lebanon, a stronghold of the pro-Iran movement.
