France is preparing to supply Ukraine with a new series of Caesar self-propelled artillery mounts (ACS), taken from a batch originally intended for Denmark. This was reported by the French newspaper on October 1 Le Monde.
According to the publication, we are talking about six to 12 howitzers. Kyiv asked for 15. Discussions are currently underway for delivery, but the delivery has become an example of a political agreement between Ukraine, Denmark and France.
The discussion has been conducted in recent weeks through correspondence between President Emmanuel Macron, his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, the newspaper writes.
The equipment that Paris is committed to deliver to Kyiv was originally intended for Denmark, as part of an order placed in 2017 for 15 units, supplemented by four more guns in 2019, supplied by Nexter.
Copenhagen has agreed to scrap some of the SPGs as they are still in the process of being technically tested or even do not meet the specifications originally set by the Danes. After hesitating, Ukraine, whose leaders are satisfied with the effectiveness of the self-propelled guns, is ready to take the guns and use them as they are.
Neither the Elysee Palace nor the French Ministry of Defense refused to comment on the supply of self-propelled guns to Kyiv.
On September 27, Le Monde reported that France plans to start training Ukrainian soldiers in Poland by the end of the year. This is part of the assistance program for Ukraine.
On September 22, the Minister of Defense of the Republic, Sebastian Lecornu, warned that France would continue to provide assistance to Ukraine with the supply of weapons, as well as the training of the Ukrainian military.
On September 20, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Grushko, at a meeting with the French Ambassador to Russia, Pierre Levy, announced the inadmissibility of the supply of weapons to Ukraine, which is subsequently used to shell the regions of Donbass and the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP).
A day earlier, the DPR reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) were shelling the Kuibyshevsky district of Donetsk from French CAESAR howitzers. The mayor of Donetsk Oleksiy Kulemzin said that during the shelling of the Kuibyshevsky district of the city by Ukrainian troops, according to preliminary data, 13 civilians were killed. According to the DPR territorial defense headquarters, eight more people were injured.
Western countries have increased the supply of weapons and military equipment to Kyiv against the backdrop of a special operation carried out by the Russian Federation to protect Donbass, the decision on which was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian military.
