Maxwell was found guilty in New York court on five of the six charges. The jury found it proven that she recruited girls for her ex-boyfriend and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein between 1994 and 2004.
Maxwell has yet to face another trial for perjury in a lawsuit against Epstein. She could be sentenced to a total of 65 years in prison, which would mean the rest of her life. If found guilty of all charges, Maxwell could face up to 80 years in prison.
Maxwell’s lawyers have now announced an appeal. “We believe in Ghislaine’s innocence and are obviously very disappointed,” a lawyer said outside the court, according to The New York Times. “We are already working on an appeal and are confident that she will be acquitted.”
