Lawyer Darejan Kveidze, who is also known for defending ex-Minister of Economic Development Alexei Ulyukaev, was detained in Moscow on the night of January 25. This publication reports Znak with reference to his sources in the capital investigation.
According to the publication, the detention was initiated by the Investigative Committee of Russia (TFR), and in the near future a preventive measure will be chosen for the lawyer. Investigators suspect Kveidze of fraud committed by an organized group. For this crime, according to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, she could face up to ten years in prison. Together with Kveidze, her business partner Andrei Folomeikin was detained.
According to a Znak source, Kveidze and Folomeikin collected money from their clients in unpromising cases so that the clients would remain at large – get off with a suspended sentence or were acquitted altogether. But in fact, the lawyers were not going to deal with such issues.
Darejan Kveidze was a lawyer for former Economic Development Minister Alexei Ulyukaev, who was accused of accepting a $2 million bribe. The court found Ulyukaev guilty and sentenced him to eight years in a strict regime colony with a fine of 130 million rubles.
