Between the last appointment with the Turkish Grand Prix and the upcoming one in the United States, the world of Formula 1 faced the wait for Austin with the desire to understand what is happening in these days in Hinwil, home of the Sauber. The Swiss team, which currently competes in the world championship under the name of Alfa Romeo, could in fact pass under the almost total control of Michael Andretti, team boss Andretti Autosport. The former US driver, son of the world champion Mario, would in fact be ready to acquire 80% of TetraPak, the company that owns Sauber.
More than a rumor, the operation was confirmed by the physical presence of Andretti himself in Hinwil, to the point that the negotiations were ready to materialize in a official announcement on the agreement between the parties already close to the weekend in the USA. However, any communication will postpone after the test in Texas, with the operation still ongoing. The hypothesis of the return of the Andretti name in Formula 1 was enthusiastically welcomed not only by the fans, but also by the potential opponents of the US manager himself.
Among them, the one who hopes for a happy ending is Lawrence Stroll, in turn owner of the Aston Martin team. The Canadian, Lance’s father, in fact hopes to be able to challenge the new-entry one day on the circuits of the top series, positively evaluating the arrival of the American: “Andretti is a great name – commented in an interview with Reuters – I know the family and it would be good for this sport if all of that were true. I don’t know much more than I heard in the paddock during the last race. I believe they have opened a SPAC – Special Purpose Acquisition Companies – in the United States, saying they would take over something in motorsport. All this is coherent and logical ”.
