Shortly before her departure from the front line of politics, a survey underlines once again the exceptional position of Angela Merkel. Two men from the SPD are making up ground in the ranking.
Munich – German politics is facing a turning point. Only a few more days, then for the first time in 16 years a federal government without CDU and CSU participation will take over the scepter. Which also ends the Angela Merkel era.
In the final months of her term in office, the Chancellor, like many members of her cabinet, did not always look happy. Be it the re-cashed Easter rest, which could not be implemented in a hurry, or the debacle over the chaotic Afghanistan withdrawal of the Bundeswehr, which among the locals in particular have to pay for the former local staff. Or the more badly accompanied corona crisis.
Merkel clearly number one in the politician ranking – Scholz is losing ground
In spite of everything, the life’s work of the Federal Republic’s first head of government shines brightly when she leaves the Chancellery. Best example: In the politician ranking of the “RTL / ntv trend barometer”, she remains the undisputed number one and significantly increases her lead over her designated successor Olaf Scholz the end.
Among the 1505 respondents from November 25th to 29th, when asked which politicians the country was “in good hands” among, she got 65 points – five more than in the previous survey. The SPD politician, on the other hand, loses three points and ends up at 50.
Lauterbach catches up with Habeck in third place – even more in focus than already
Third place is shared by Greens co-boss Robert Habeck with one of this month’s newcomers. Karl Lauterbach makes up seven points and, like the designated Vice Chancellor and Minister of Climate and Economic Affairs, has 47 points.
The SPD health expert is currently moving more into focus than it was already during the Corona crisis, because more and more voices – including from other parties – are calling for him as the future health minister. However, the epidemiologist of what is currently probably the second most important post in the government can by no means be sure, many decision-makers in his party seem to insist on a woman.
Klingbeil is now level with Söder – Spahn continues to lose
The other big winner, who is also a member of the SPD, lands in shared fifth place. General Secretary Lars Klingbeil sharpened his profile just in the weeks after the election, could now become co-party chairman alongside Saskia Esken and even won eight points in the survey, which, like CSU boss Markus Söder, got 46 points.
Next to Scholz, the biggest loser is Jens Spahn, who will soon be released from the duties of health minister and thus the first crisis manager, who has also lost three points and now only has 29. The CDU politician is publicly held responsible for many failures in the pandemic: above all, the wasted procurement of masks, vaccines and free tests.
Only Merkel received more approval in her own party than Söder in his
Interesting: Particularly popular among the supporters of their own party are their most important figures. Merkel got 86 points from the CDU voters, Söder got 84 points from those of the CSU.
Scholz slipped seven points among the SPD supporters, but still stands at 75. FDP leader Christian Lindner collects exactly the same number of points among the voters of the Liberals. Among the Green supporters, Habeck has 73, the former candidate for Chancellor Annalena Baerbock 70.
Video: According to the survey, clear majority in favor of a lockdown
Almost two thirds of those surveyed are in favor of a lockdown
In another survey by the “RTL / ntv trend barometer”, 1005 citizens expressed their opinion on the Corona measures on November 25th and 26th, which were discussed on Tuesday at a Prime Minister’s conference before resolutions are to be passed on Thursday. 65 percent of them are in favor of a lockdown including the closure of shops, clubs and leisure facilities, exit and contact restrictions and a ban on major events.
In the previous survey it was 61 percent. 31 percent now generally vote against such drastic measures – regardless of the number of infections.
Only supporters of the FDP and AfD majority against lockdown
Among the Green supporters, 79 percent would welcome a lockdown, followed by voters of the Union with 76 percent, the left with 71 percent and the SPD with 68 percent. In contrast, 53 percent of the FDP supporters vote against a lockdown, with the AfD it is even 83 percent.
A general compulsory vaccination is now supported by 71 percent of those surveyed, 26 percent are against. Here only the majority of AfD voters lower their thumbs, 77 percent of them. (mg)
