Spanish figure skater Laura Barquero tested positive for doping during the recent Beijing Winter Olympics, the International Testing Agency (ITA) announced on Tuesday.
«The ITA informs that the sample taken from the Spanish skater Laura Barquero Jiménez has given an adverse analytical result for the prohibited substance Clostebol metabolite 4-chloro-3Î-hydroxy-androst-4-en-17-one, according to the List Banned from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA),” the ITA statement said.
The sample was collected under the testing authority of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in an anti-doping control carried out on February 18, during the pairs skating short program.
“The athlete has been informed of the case. She has the right to request B-sample analysis,” the ITA said in a statement, adding that the matter will be referred to the Anti-Doping Chamber of the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Barquero, 20, and his partner Marco Zandron finished 11th in pairs figure skating.
